Device name options

A device can be targeted by different autodiscovery job types so it is important to understand how the different jobs can be configured to set the discovered hostname. The hostname of the device is used for matching, and it is possible to have one job detecting a hostname format that differs from another.

SNMP:

Enclosure/blade system options > Name to use for newly discovered module or IPMI:

This can either be the serial number, the name found from SNMP followed by serial number if it fails, or the name with the serial number appended

 

Hypervisors/*nix/Win:

When the platform is set to vmware:

Naming Options > Name to Use:

This can be the name from vmtools or the name of the VM on vserver

 

When the platform is *nix or Windows:

Naming Options > Device Name Format:

Hostname as Discovered

Hostname plus Domain Name

Hostname and add Hostname plus Domain Name as Alias

Hostname plus Domain Name and add Hostname as Alias
