Default value for custom fields and templates

Sometime is useful to have Custom field populated with a default value rather than an empty value.

In such situations for example for 100 items inserted a particular custom field could be set to a non-default value only few times.

Generally speaking a custom field should have a default value but in my opinion maybe not enough.

In my opinion a feature rich template system should at least let the user specify, for each template, which default value assign to each custom field in the template.

  Yep agree, you shouldn't really have certain custom fields having Null values

  e.g. Yes/No custom fields should be one or the other, not Yes/No/Null

  I was actually just looking for how to do this when I came across this post.  I guess that answers my question.  I wanted an "Appliance" field that was Yes/No with a default value of "No".
