Need ability to document terminal server connections in Device42
CompletedI tried to do this using switchports/interfaces on devices, but since terminal server/serial console connections have no MACs, I can't even add the interfaces to the terminal server.
A quick work-around would be a binary flag on an "interface", for "serial port" or "ethernet". Serial interfaces, of course, would not be required to have MAC addresses the way ethernet interfaces do.
Our current work-around is to shove it in the "Notes" field for the given device, along with several other pieces of data Device42 does not support

This can be done using Direct Device connections to a network device port (where console server is a network device).
We have also added auto-discovery around OpenGear and Avocent devices in v7.1.0: http://blog.device42.com/2015/06/enhanced-custom-fields-console-server-auto-discovery-support-for-variable-width-devices-and-devices-outside-the-rack-in-v7-1-0/
