Custom fields

I would like to be able to define my own custom fields that can be marked as mandatory. I know I can set up key/value pairs and use those for different kinds of information. But there are several problems with the key/value pair implementation.

Firstly, I cannot enforce that a specific pair is filled out for a given device.

Secondly, the pairs are completely hidden and I would like to have some custom fields with important information which should be very each to access.

My specific need is for defining different contacts for the devices. I believe that kind of information is at least as important as the model of a device and it should be displayed just as prominently.

  Jens,

  Can you please explain what you mean by " the pairs are completely hidden". Do you mean the fact that those are under other tab and are not visible right away or do you mean the display of the key and value pair itself?

  By hidden I mean they are under the other tab and really hard to find. The display is also rather messy compared to the standard fields above the tabs, but that is part of the visual design post I also made yesterday.

  Is there a way to display custom information in the main device info instead of having to slect the "other" tab?
