Feature Request: Associate Passwords with Applications
CompletedHello,
We think it would be beneficial to be able to associate passwords with applications. This way the password is not dependent on a server association and can be associated just with an application.
This may be ou of scope of the intent of the password management but what we would like to use the password field to manage FTP accounts. We would add the account and password but for association we would create an application such as FTP gateway. The reason we would like to do it this way is because we have several FTP servers and it would be easier to associate the ftp accounts to this one "application.
I was also wondering is it possible to tie an application to multiple servers? This way we can create the application "Ftp Gateway" and associate the one application with all of our FTP servers.

Thomas,
There are couple of ways you can achieve this.
1. If you create a cluster device and add several FTP servers to it, you can then associate the application and the passwords with it.
2. You can associate passwords to multiple devices and use label in the password as your main search criteria,
For applications across multiple servers, if you are not doing it for dependency mappings, you can use custom key/pair values. For example, you can add a custom key: Installed apps with value FTP gateway.
This also becomes part of the global search. And starting with v5.3.0, we will be adding custom key/values to the reporting.
Let us know if that makes sense. I will post back here once v5.3.0 is released.
Thanks.

Thomas,
Starting with v5.3.2, we have added ability to associate passwords with application components as well. More details : http://blog.device42.com/2013/09/overlapping-domains-centralized-password-management-enhancements-in-v5-3-2/
