Visual Representation of Blade Nodes in Rack View
CompletedWe are heavy users of blade chassis (both Dell M1000e 16 node enclosures and Dell C series 4 node enclosures). It would be nice to be able to see a visual representation of the blade devices in a blade enclosure in the rack views of device42. My ideas would be showing simple text in the tool tip hover (slot # and machine name) or "carving" out the physical rack view of the enclosure device (the M1000e, 10Us) into smaller devices and having a link to each blade. The approaches may have to be different based on the density of the enclosures. Our C series enclosures are 4 nodes in 2U's so thats a lot of information in a small amount of screen real estate.

Andrew,
This is a great suggestion and we would look into this.

I second this suggestions. Only seeing a chassis in the rack view isn't very useful and showing the blade names in a tooltip would be a great improvement.

Hi I will love to have this feature available

Thanks for the suggestion. We have now added functionality in the rack view to show device details in hover over. This also shows links to all blade devices in that chassis.
You can read more detail at the blog post labeled easier data center planning with release v4.2.0.

This looks great. Is it possible to make the font size customized or split the data in two columns. If we have a 16 or 32 blade chassi in the bottom of the rack the tooltip is not able to show them all, it's cut off at the bottom of the screen.

We have reproduced this issue and hope to have a fix ready for the next release (4.2.1).

Hover over getting cut off for blade chassis or for longer racks has been fixed in v4.3.0: http://blog.device42.com/2013/03/introducing-device-aliases-for-easier-data-center-inventory-with-v4-3-0/
Thanks,
Raj.
