How to bulk update hardware model subtype:
Each hardware model has a subtype which must match with the physical subtype that the paired device is using. Because of this pairing, there are additional steps required to modify the subtype in bulk.
Before we begin it is important to understand that when new hardware is initially discovered it will contain a subtype named “Generic (non-rackable)”. When a hardware model contains this subtype it is possible to directly change the subtype to anything else. If any other subtype is being modified then the device must first be unracked before it can be modified.
Navigate to Infrastructure > Hardware Models and select those models which you need to change their subtype, then use the drop-down actions menu to export them:
On the exported file change the subtype under the column "physicalsubtype" to match the new subtype you wish to use. The subtype must already exist on Device42 or the import will fail.
Include a new column titled “approve_conflicts” and fill the rows with the value “yes”
Save and navigate to
Tools -> Imports/Exports (XLS)
then upload and import the file and all devices associated with the hardware model will have the same subtype.
