There may be cases where data in Device42 becomes stale and is no longer necessary to keep in the DB. This could be a decommissioned device that is no longer using an assigned IP, software that was discovered as an older version and then updated, or a temporary VM that was picked up in a scan before being deleted.
Auto clean rules can be created from Tools > Auto Clean Rules. The created rule will run daily at 2AM based on the appliance time zone and then process based on the rule parameters. Each rule must have an object selected, a date threshold, and an action.
Object - This will be the object that is affected by the rule such as an IP address, Software record, or Device.
Date - After N days without any updates the rule will apply the selected actions. This date is based on the "Last Edited" timestamp on the object.
Actions - There are different actions depending on the object but one action in common with every object is the ability to completely delete the data. If you do not want to delete the entire record there are other actions such as setting a devices service level or removing IP/MAC associations.
After the rule has been created it can be run manually to immediately clean up any objects older than N days or it can be left to run on its own every morning. There is no additional scheduling required after the data range has been configured within the rule.
