Question: When should I run jobs on my Main Appliance vs. a Remote Collector? Why can I not configure a /16 subnet scan on my Main Appliance?
Answer: In most all cases the best practice will be to run your autodiscovery jobs on a Remote Collector.
This is to help ensure a high level of stability and performance by keeping your Main Appliance from being overloaded processing large jobs. The main appliance has a hard coded limitation of a single /24 subnet for discovery jobs, but you can add a remote collector to the job to target multiple /24 or a single /16. We recommend to limit scans to around 5-10 jobs per Remote Collector at any given time, with any /16 scans having their own dedicated collectors.
Remember, you can have any number of remote collectors deployed at no additional cost or license restriction! Download the latest Remote Collector image here: https://www.device42.com/autodiscovery/
