Should I use a Remote Collector or Main Appliance to run autodiscovery jobs? How many jobs per collector?

Question: When should I run jobs on my Main Appliance vs. a Remote Collector?  Why can I not configure a /16 subnet scan on my Main Appliance?

Answer: In most all cases the best practice will be to run your autodiscovery jobs on a Remote Collector.

This is to help ensure a high level of stability and performance by keeping your Main Appliance from being overloaded processing large jobs. The main appliance has a hard coded limitation of a single /24 subnet for discovery jobs, but you can add a remote collector to the job to target multiple /24 or a single /16. We recommend to limit scans to around 5-10 jobs per Remote Collector at any given time, with any /16 scans having their own dedicated collectors.

The default resources for the Remote Collector (RC) are 2vCPU, 4GB Memory, and 20GB disk.

However, these resources need to be increased or doubled based on the number of devices discovered through the RC and more importantly if there are multiple ADM and RU sampling jobs running using that RC.
